TV Talk: 10 Pakistani Drama Serials That Have Proven to Be Cult-Classics!

Pakistani drama serials are the backbone of the entertainment industry in the country, and by now everyone has, by and large, accepted that. However, not every show is created equal! There are some which just know how to leave the crowds wanting for more and they become the names you remember forever.

Be it their captivating storylines or simply the controversies surrounding them, there are some drama serials that have the power to make people move and get everyone talking about them.

So which such cult-classic serial made it to Diva’s list? We have the lowdown…

 

Meray Paas Tum Ho

Giving a whole new meaning to the word controversyMeray Paas Tum Ho has divided the nation between those who love to hate the romantic drama by Khalil-Ur-Rehman Qamar and those who can’t get enough of it. This cult-classic show of the modern era of Pakistani television may have given even more rise to the already-glittering careers of Ayeza Khan and Humayun Saeed, but we don’t think anyone’s complaining!

 

Humsafar

A show that made Mahira and Fawad Khan stars overnight, Humsafar has to be one romantic serial that has the most dynamic cult-following in the Subcontinent! Be it India or Pakistan, this show made the careers for the two stars who now stand on the top of any list of the most famous Pakistani celebs. Can anyone forget Khirad or Ashar? We don’t think so!

 

Udaari

A show that possibly received even more attention than the current MPTH, Udaari is a cult-classic for all the right reasons. Following the theme of sexual abuse, the show opened up the platform for drama serials which weren’t afraid to talk about the dark underbelly of society. PEMRA might have had issues with it, but no one in the audiences did!

 

Khaani

A show based on the eponymous Khaani played by Sana Javed and Feroze Khan, the show made all the headlines when it ran. It was like Khaani fever and whichever social media platform one went through, there was only the name of the show plastered around! People still can’t get over Khaani or Mir Hadi, and that’s truly saying something.

 

Sadqay Tumhare

A show that started off on a slower pace and then fully blew into a sensation, Mahira Khan and Adnan Malik’s Sadqay Tumhare became one of the biggest cult-classics of the year it aired. There were romance, drama and a full punch of emotions in the show, and as we all know, there are no better ingredients than these to make a show popular!

 

Zindagi Gulzar Hai

A show that just added to Fawad Khan’s fame post-Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai remains a fan-favourite to this date, and no one on both sides of the border has ever stopped loving the show! Both Kashaf and Zaroon became household names due to the romantic drama serial, and in every sense of the word, the show was a cult-classic!

 

Baaghi

A show that started and ended both with controversy attached to its name, Saba Qamar’s Baaghi was a show that changed the audiences’ perception of the phenomenon that was Qandeel Baloch. The show quite effectively showcased the life of the controversial star and in the end, meted out applause and a cult-following that wasn’t seen before!

 

Ranjha Ranjha Kardi

A sensation in all ways, Imran Ashraf and Iqra Aziz’s Ranjha Ranjha Kardi was the cult-classic of the last year which everyone couldn’t help but fall in love with. For the first time, a drama serial brought to light a ton of different themes working so beautifully with each other and proved why it deserved all the attention that it received.

 

 Suno Chanda

The first and possibly the only Ramadan show which was able to achieve a cult-classic status, Suno Chanda was the sensation of 2018 that made Iqra Aziz and Farhan Saeed TV’s most coveted names in that year. There was the right mix of comedy and drama in the show, and it served as the perfect watch for the month!

 

Cheekh

A whodunnit that received a cult-following from the get-go, Saba Qamar, Emaad Irfani and Bilal Abbas Khan’s Cheekh remains a fan favourite which no one is forgetting anytime soon. There was everything a person craved from a show, and for those who love a bit of suspense, this show was nothing but perfect.
