Known for his ability to never surprise, it would appear Fahad Hussayn’s creative hat keeps on cooking something up that leaves us both surprised at the level of innovation and excited for what else he has under his sleeve. The Fahad Hussayn Academy officially opened their doors to the city of Karachi with a launch that saw industry big wigs, corporate leaders and the faces and influences of Pakistan all in attendance. Whispers of a space that has been so artfully curated heralded the statement many fashion enthusiasts have been waiting to say: “Fashion is officially back in Karachi.”
The launch of Fahad Hussayn Academy saw the unveiling of their latest bridal collection “Mutanjan” which is inspired by cultural delicacies that remain a staple during the festive season. Borrowing from the richness and sweetness of the dish, Mutanjan’s color palette is both unique and vibrant. When one saw the collection, they felt transported back to a simpler time as each piece evoked a sense of nostalgia. After the launch took place, we asked Fahad how the idea came about, to which he said “I wanted a collection that is an ode to the delicacies and dishes that take us back to a time of indescribable excitement. When I thought of Mutanjan as a dish, it had it all. A pop of color. Indescribable sweetness. An inclusion of so many elements that were not overpowering and fit effortlessly. That’s when I realized this year’s bridal was about celebrating the sweetness of the season.”
The designer unveiled the collection by releasing their wedding anthem “Aaya Laariye” sung by the soulful duo Zain Zohaib. The music video, the composition, the direction all done by Fahad himself was a series of masterful performances and sentimental elements. From the dances to the natural smiles, each part of it was a meaningful tribute to Pakistani heritage in every which way.
“Aaya Laariye” which translates to the bride/groom has come couldn’t be more symbolic. They’ve arrived and so has he. The man who is a full-fledged institution of creativity and inspiration. The artist who pours every ounce of his energy into his creations which are not just fashion pieces, but films, music, direction and much more.
